Climate Just Collective: Meet Sophie - Our New Events Coordinator
1. Hello! We would love to hear more about you and your interests. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello I’m Sophie (she/her), and I love books, pretty walks, Mama Earth, and my numerous plant babies! I work as a Borough Coordinator for London’s cycle training and am really interested in sustainable travel. I want to do a Masters in Environmental Policy (hopefully soon) and continue my fight for climate justice!
2. When did you become engaged with climate justice and what inspired this?
In 2019 I became a vegetarian after reading about the impacts of animal and animal products on the earth. After which I just kept engaging with environmental issues and found that I was late to the party!
I’m quite an avid reader and so I tried to read as much info as I could, began volunteering for OxClean (when I lived in Oxford) and now SOLLA (in London), and figure out what I could do and how I could help in the prevention of climate injustices. I quickly discovered that although I could do as much as I could on my own, I knew that collective action was the way forward and that there isn’t just one kind of Climate Justice!
3. What do you hope to achieve with the Climate Just Collective?
I first joined the Climate Just Collective Book Club in early 2021, and have always loved their content and community! I am now one of their Events Coordinators and am really excited to start arranging interesting, educational and engaging events for everyone to take part in and begin/continue their climate justice journey!
Over the coming year I would love to organise events, both in person and virtual, that can help people to engage with the Climate Justice Movement beyond the written word, and also learn some weird and wonderful earth knowledge along the way.
4. What one piece of advice would you give to those trying to make a positive difference?
Keep going! Whatever part of climate justice you are interested in make it your own and enjoy it, there is no ‘right’ way to make a difference so don’t doubt yourself – you’ll be fabulous! (It helps to surround yourself with like-minded people, they are always lovely).
